England Record Double Victory Against Australia

08 Feb 2010 by BCS

England Colleges 5 v 0 Australia Schools (Women)

England Colleges 3 v 2 Australia Schools (Men)

The England Colleges football teams got off to a flying start against a very strong Australian squad who have been dominating most teams on their ten game tour of China, England & Ireland. The game at AFC Telford narrowly survived the weather and produced two games of the highest quality in front of a fine crowd, which included an array of professional club and England scouts.

The women’s squads completed an impressive 5 goal victory, and managed to use all eighteen squad players in the process. The Australian coaching staff commented that it was by far the strongest team they have played on tour and was a great exhibition for women’s football. The women’s squad now take their unbeaten spell to two years.

The men’s game was fast paced and certainly not short of excitement. The impressive victory was clinched in the 88th minute by England forward Chris Knight from Dudley College who volleyed a dazzling 35 yard winner only minutes after he had come on as substitute.

British Colleges Sport and the staff from the England Colleges Football programme would like to thank the players and staff from Australian Schools for being such great guests and we look forward to making the return trip in the near future.

Both England squads now go into crucial home nations international matches against Wales and Northern Ireland.
